Psychosis: Halloween Pt. 1 of 4 Lauren Flax +more
Dead Letter No.9 · Williamsburg
City of Gods returns to Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, for its 8th year, taking over two warehouse buildings and the courtyard between them. The festival runs across two nights, Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, with the listing spanning 9 PM Friday to 4 AM on Sunday morning, New York time. It is built with a curated group of Burning Man camps and art collectives, each shaping part of a sprawling Halloween city of stages, shrines and hidden rooms.
Costumes are required, and the organizers want them elaborate; Native American ceremonial headdresses, blackface and weapons are banned. Camps and creatives named on DICE include Alex and Allyson Grey, Butt Disco, Mayan Warrior, Pink Mammoth, Playa Jazz Cafe, GlamCocks and Mystopia, among others. Experiences listed include the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, The Sanctuary chill-out lounge, a speakeasy cabaret, Lost Paradise, an art bazaar, photo booths, healing gardens and Carnival Row outdoors. Each night has different camps, music and performances, so Friday and Saturday are not repeats. My take: for people who want an all-in costume festival to wander and explore, not a single dancefloor with a headliner.
No artists are announced: the organizers keep the lineup secret every year by tradition. According to the DICE FAQ, the stages cover the range from house to techno, including indie dance, melodic techno, deep house, tech house, afrohouse and progressive house. DICE's genre tags (disco, jazz) do not match that FAQ description. The stage count is also inconsistent in the FAQ, which mentions 8 stages in one answer and 2 outdoor plus 8 indoor in another. Set times are not published.
The listing runs from 9 PM on Friday, October 23, to 4 AM on Sunday, October 25 (New York time); nightly door and close times are not broken out. Entry is 21+ with valid ID. Costumes are required. There is no re-entry. Tickets are sold for a single night or as 2-day passes, and Friday and Saturday tickets are not transferable to the other night. There are no ticket sales at the door, and online sales end the day before the event. Industry City is listed at 67 34th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232. Coat check is complimentary for premium ticket holders; general coat check, accessibility and the nearest subway are not confirmed.
