East Village bar crawl: five happy hours, one short walk

For an East Village bar crawl, go on a weekday and walk five stops in this order: Emmy Squared on 1st Avenue, Ruffian and Niagara on East 7th Street, Westville East on Avenue A, and Kingston Hall on 2nd Avenue. All five run a happy hour Monday through Friday, the deals overlap in the late afternoon, and no leg is longer than about six minutes on foot.

A bar crawl works when the stops are close and the deals line up at the same time. This route does both. Five East Village bars and restaurants sit along 1st Avenue, East 7th Street, Avenue A and 2nd Avenue, and the whole walk is about a kilometer, measured door to door in straight lines.

Every stop runs its happy hour Monday through Friday, and all five are on together in the late afternoon, so any weekday works. The order follows the clock as much as the map: the deals that end first come first, and the one that runs latest closes the night. You get a food stop, a wine bar, a beer bar, a margarita and mocktail stop, and a two-for-one finish.

Each card below shows live prices and today's hours. The table under this intro lists more happy hours within a short walk of the first stop, in case you want to swap one out.

The route, stop by stop

  1. 1. Emmy Squared East Village

    House Wine $5 · Well Cocktails $7
    Mon–Fri 3pm–6pm · 83 1st Avenue · 2nd Avenue (F)

Start at Emmy Squared, a pizza, burger and salad restaurant at 83 1st Avenue. Its weekday happy hour opens first on the route and covers house wine, well cocktails, beer and sriracha glazed chicken wings, so this is where you put some food down before the night. The F at 2nd Avenue is five minutes away, and Resy takes bookings if your group wants a table.

    2. Ruffian East Village

    $5 off wine
    Mon–Fri 4pm–6pm · 125 E 7th St · 1st Avenue (L)

Ruffian, a wine-focused bar at 125 E 7th St, is about three minutes from Emmy Squared. Its weekday happy hour takes a discount off everything, with separate discounts on wine and on food. It also has the shortest window of the five, so it goes second, while the deal is still on. No booking link is listed, so walk in.

  3. 1 min walk from Ruffian

    3. Niagara East Village

    Draft Beer $5 · House Wine $5
    Daily open to 7pm · 112 Avenue A · 1st Avenue (L)

Niagara, at 112 Avenue A, is the beer stop and barely a minute from Ruffian, at the Avenue A end of the block. Its happy hour starts when the doors open, seven days a week, and covers draft beer, house wine and well drinks until early evening. Order a draft, slow the pace a little, then head north up Avenue A.

  4. 4 min walk from Niagara

    4. Westville East East Village

    margaritas $8 · sangria $8
    Daily 4pm–7pm · 173 Avenue A · 1st Avenue (L)

About four minutes north, Westville East at 173 Avenue A is a restaurant with a happy hour every day of the week. The list is the longest on the route: margaritas, sangria, cocktails, wine, beer and mocktails, which makes it the easy stop for anyone in the group taking a break from alcohol. The L at 1st Avenue is three minutes away if someone has to leave early.

    5. Kingston Hall East Village

    2-for-1
    Mon–Sat 4pm–8pm · Sun 3pm–8pm · 149 2nd Avenue · Astor Place (6)

Finish at Kingston Hall, 149 2nd Avenue, about six minutes west of Westville East. Its happy hour runs Monday through Saturday, with a separate Sunday window, and it stays on later than any other stop here. The deal is two-for-one on beer, prosecco and well drinks, so pair up and split rounds. Astor Place on the 6 is four minutes away for the ride home.

How to time it

Pick a weekday. Emmy Squared, Ruffian, Niagara, Westville East and Kingston Hall all run a happy hour Monday through Friday, and all five are on at the same time in the late afternoon. That shared stretch is your crawl.

Emmy Squared's window opens an hour before Ruffian's, so time your first round there to land you at Ruffian right as its deal starts. Ruffian has the shortest window, and Emmy Squared's ends at the same moment, which is why they lead the route. After that the pressure is off: Niagara and Westville East run into the early evening, and Kingston Hall keeps going an hour past them. Plan on one round, roughly 40 minutes, per stop and you finish with time to spare. Check the cards on the day, because bars do change hours.

On a Saturday or Sunday, Emmy Squared and Ruffian drop out. A shorter weekend version still works: Niagara, then Westville East, then Smør at 441 East 12th Street (about a minute from Westville East, with house wines and cocktails every day), then Kingston Hall, whose Sunday window starts earlier than its weekday one.

The route, stop by stop

Leg one, Emmy Squared to Ruffian: about 220 meters, three minutes. Walk up 1st Avenue and turn east onto East 7th Street. Leg two, Ruffian to Niagara: about 80 meters, one minute, to the Avenue A end of the same block. Leg three, Niagara to Westville East: about 300 meters, four minutes, straight up Avenue A. Leg four, Westville East to Kingston Hall: about 460 meters, six minutes, west and a little north to 2nd Avenue.

That adds up to roughly 1,060 meters and 14 minutes of walking. These are straight-line distances, so the real walk on the street grid runs a little longer, but it stays well under the time you spend at any one bar.

Want an earlier, longer day? Hair Of The Dog at 168 Orchard Street in the Lower East Side runs a weekday happy hour on all drinks, plus a slider deal, starting early in the day. It is about a seven-minute walk south of Emmy Squared, so it slots in as a stop zero.

Getting there and back

Coming in, the F to 2nd Avenue leaves you five minutes from Emmy Squared, the natural first stop. The L at 1st Avenue is the other good arrival point: Westville East is three minutes from it, and Ruffian and Niagara are about seven.

Going home, Kingston Hall is four minutes from Astor Place on the 6. If you are headed for the L instead, peel off after Westville East, three minutes from 1st Avenue station. The same L line also stops at Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, where our Williamsburg bar crawl begins, if you want to compare the two neighborhoods on another night.

Small things that make the crawl better

Eat in the first hour. Emmy Squared's wings and Ruffian's food discount come early, which is when you need them; the last three happy hours list drinks only. Westville East is the place to switch to a mocktail for a round without dropping out of the group.

Only Emmy Squared lists a booking link, so the other four are first come. A group of two to four moves through bars like these far more easily than a big party. Kingston Hall's two-for-one rewards pairs, so plan your last round with a friend.

Questions

What day should I do an East Village bar crawl?

Any weekday. All five stops on this route run a happy hour Monday through Friday, and they overlap in the late afternoon. On weekends, Emmy Squared and Ruffian have no happy hour, so use the shorter Niagara, Westville East, Smør and Kingston Hall version.

How long is the walk?

About 1,060 meters in straight lines between the five stops, or roughly 14 minutes of walking in total. No single leg is longer than about six minutes.

Where can I eat on this crawl?

Emmy Squared's happy hour includes sriracha glazed chicken wings, and Ruffian discounts its food. Both come early in the route. Niagara, Westville East and Kingston Hall list drinks only in their happy hours.

Is there anything for people who are not drinking?

Yes. Westville East includes mocktails in its happy hour, and it is the fourth stop, so a non-drinker can stay with the group for the whole route.

Do I need reservations?

Emmy Squared takes bookings through Resy. Ruffian, Niagara, Westville East and Kingston Hall have no booking link listed, so plan to walk in.

Which subway should I take?

Arrive on the F at 2nd Avenue, five minutes from Emmy Squared, or on the L at 1st Avenue. Leave from Astor Place on the 6, four minutes from Kingston Hall.

How we put this together

Stops, deals, days, addresses, booking links and subway walking times come from each bar's own website as recorded in our database, with happy hours last checked on September 2, 2026. Walking times are straight-line distances between each bar's map coordinates at about 80 meters a minute, so real walks run slightly longer. The L line stops come from the MTA's L line map.
