Koreatown Bar Crawl: Herald Square to a 32nd Street Karaoke Room
For a Koreatown bar crawl that stays on happy hour, go on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and walk four stops: The Ragtrader Bo Peep on West 36th Street, Legasea Bar & Grill on Seventh Avenue, Stella 34 Trattoria on West 34th Street and Maru Karaoke Lounge on West 32nd Street. The walk is about 920 meters in all, and the karaoke stop's evening happy hour starts as the other three wind down.
Koreatown packs a lot into a few blocks around Herald Square, and our list for the area stretches from West 27th Street up to West 36th Street and over to Seventh Avenue by Penn Station. Thirteen bars sit in it, and this route uses four of them: a food-first bar, an oyster bar, an Italian trattoria and a karaoke lounge on West 32nd Street, the block most people picture when they hear the name.
We dropped bars whose deal listings were stale, empty or jumbled, and built the order around one fixed point: Maru's happy hour starts in the evening, just as the others end, so the crawl finishes with a microphone. Fifty bars on our list, these four included, have a happy hour within a 10-minute walk of Stella 34, the third stop, which is one of the densest pockets we track.

Which days the route works
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The first three stops run happy hour Monday to Friday, and Maru runs its deal Sunday through Wednesday, so those three weeknights are the only ones where all four line up. Thursday and Friday still work for the first three; see the last section for a different finish.
The order follows the clock. The Ragtrader's food deal starts at midday and ends first, so it opens the crawl in the late afternoon. Legasea has been on happy hour since mid-afternoon, and Stella 34's bar deal starts a little later, so those two fill the middle. Both close in the early evening, which is about when Maru's evening window opens. Plan on 40 to 45 minutes at each of the first three stops, then settle in at Maru. Exact times are on the pick cards.
The route, stop by stop
From The Ragtrader on West 36th Street to Legasea on Seventh Avenue is about 320 meters, around four minutes. Legasea to Stella 34 on West 34th Street is about 230 meters, three minutes. The last leg, to Maru on West 32nd Street, is about 370 meters, close to five minutes. That is about 920 meters in total, roughly 12 minutes on foot.
The stops each do one thing. The Ragtrader is the food stop, with arancini, dip and sliders. Legasea is oysters and martinis at the bar. Stella 34 is cocktails with a free small pizza on the first signature drink. Maru is beer, shots and a karaoke room. Our distances are straight lines between bar coordinates at about 80 meters a minute, so allow a little extra for corners and crossings.
Getting there, and karaoke basics
The 34th Street-Herald Square station, served by the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R and W, is the hub here: our listings put it two minutes from The Ragtrader, a minute from Stella 34 and three minutes from Maru. Legasea is closer to 34th Street-Penn Station on the 1, 2 and 3. Either way you can arrive and leave by subway without a long walk.
At Maru, the happy hour deal covers private rooms as well as drinks, so a group can take its own room for the window. Arrive as the window opens to get the most of it, and agree on a playlist before the first round of shots, not after.
Thursday, Friday and the weekend
On a Thursday or Friday, keep the first three stops and swap Maru for Glass Ceiling Rooftop at 1204 Broadway, also on our Koreatown list. It runs a late-afternoon happy hour and a second one late at night, Tuesday through Saturday, with martinis, classic cocktails, flatbreads and a Caesar. It is about six minutes from Stella 34, so you can go for the late window after dinner.
