NYC Happy Hour Prices: The Price Index
What a happy-hour drink actually costs in New York City, by kind of drink, borough and neighborhood. Built from the prices 408 bars publish on their own menus, and updated every time the site is rebuilt. Last update: 2026-10-25.
Key findings, October 2026
- The median happy-hour beer in New York City costs $6, a glass of wine $9, a cocktail $10 and a well drink $8, across 408 bars that publish their happy-hour prices.
- 23% of the bars with a beer on their happy hour price it at $5 or less; 66% of the bars with a cocktail price it at $10 or less.
- The cheapest neighborhoods for a happy-hour beer are Astoria ($5.50), Midtown ($6), Times Square ($6); the most expensive are Union Square ($7.50), Chelsea ($7.50), Koreatown ($7.50).
- For cocktails, Union Square ($9), Williamsburg ($10), Financial District ($10) are the cheapest; Park Slope ($12), Lower East Side ($11), Times Square ($11) the most expensive.

How the index is built
Every price comes from a bar's own website or menu, read by us; each bar page links to the page we read and shows the date. For each bar we take its cheapest happy-hour price in each kind of drink (beer, wine, cocktail, well drink), then report the median across bars. Discounts without a price ("$2 off", "half price") are not counted, nor are prices a later re-read could no longer find. Prices are before sales tax (8.875%) and tip.
408 of the 527 bars with a known happy hour publish at least one drink price. Bars that do not publish prices are not in the figures, which may lean toward bars that advertise their deals.
