The best neighborhoods for nightlife in NYC, ranked by happy hours and parties
Going by our own data, the best neighborhoods for nightlife in NYC are Bushwick, Williamsburg, Chelsea, the East Village, Midtown, the Lower East Side and Greenwich Village, ranked by how many happy hours and upcoming parties each one has. Bushwick has the most parties, Midtown has the most happy hours, and Williamsburg sits near the top of both lists. For an easy night, start at a happy hour like Post No Bills in Williamsburg or Ten Bells on the Lower East Side, then walk to a party a block or two away.
Some New York neighborhoods make a night out easy: plenty of happy hours to start, plenty of parties to finish, and a subway line that gets you home. To find them, we ranked every neighborhood on YaY NYC by two things we track ourselves: how many bars there have a current happy hour, and how many upcoming parties are on our calendar there, matched by the party's listed neighborhood or its venue's.
The seven below came out on top. Some win on one list, like Bushwick on parties and Midtown on happy hours, and some are strong on both, like Williamsburg and the East Village. We left out areas with long happy hour lists but almost no parties; they get a mention in the last section. The numbers move as bars change their deals and new parties go on sale, so each neighborhood page and both maps show live counts.
Each section covers the kinds of places you will find, the days with the most deals, the trains to take and where the parties happen. The picks are one or two bars per neighborhood that make a good first stop.

1. Bushwick: the deepest party calendar
Bushwick ranks first because of parties. It has the most upcoming parties on our calendar by a wide margin, and they fill big rooms on and around Wyckoff, Scott and Johnson Avenues: SILO Brooklyn, House of Yes and its Onyx Room, Elsewhere, 99 Scott, The Chocolate Factory and Sea Wolf Bushwick. House, techno and disco lead most lineups, Sea Wolf leans Latin and reggaeton, and The Sultan Room on Starr Street adds afrobeats, amapiano and dancehall. Friday and Saturday carry most nights, though SILO books plenty of midweek dates too.
The happy hour list is shorter than in the other top neighborhoods and almost all bars, with a pub, a dive bar and a rooftop in the mix. Wine, cocktails and food deals come up most, with cheap beer at a few places and oysters at one. Deals run evenly from Monday to Friday, and about half also run on Saturday or Sunday, the biggest weekend share of any neighborhood in this guide.
Getting there: the L does most of the work, with stops at Morgan Avenue, Jefferson Street, DeKalb Avenue and Myrtle–Wyckoff Avenues. The M covers Central Avenue and meets the L at Myrtle–Wyckoff. Every deal is on the Bushwick happy hours page.
2. Williamsburg: strong on both lists
Williamsburg is the one neighborhood near the top of both rankings: it has the second-longest happy hour list on the site and one of the three busiest party calendars. About three in five places are bars, the rest mostly restaurants plus a few pubs, and wine, cocktails and food deals turn up equally often. Oysters appear on several menus. Deals peak Tuesday through Thursday, thin out a little on Monday and Friday, and only about a quarter run on the weekend, so a Saturday plan here takes more picking.
The parties stretch from the waterfront to the Bushwick border. Sleepwalk on Bushwick Avenue books a long run of Wednesday nights with disco, funk and house. Superior Ingredients on Wythe Avenue covers house, techno and disco, mostly on Saturdays. The Meadows and The Brooklyn Monarch on Meadow Street mix techno, drum and bass, Latin and pop, and Westlight Rooftop at The William Vale hosts house nights up top.
Getting there: Bedford Avenue on the L is the stop for the most bars, followed by Marcy Avenue on the J, M and Z. Lorimer Street, Graham Avenue and Montrose Avenue on the L cover the east side, and the G stops at Metropolitan Avenue and Broadway. The full list is on Williamsburg happy hours.
3. Chelsea: Manhattan's busiest party calendar
Chelsea ranks third almost entirely on parties: no Manhattan neighborhood has more upcoming parties on our calendar. Two rooms do most of the work. Somewhere Nowhere NYC on West 25th Street runs Latin and drum and bass nights from Friday through Sunday, and Marquee New York on Tenth Avenue books mostly Fridays and Saturdays. PHD Lounge on West 16th Street adds house and EDM, with The Gallery at Dream Downtown at the same address, loulou sits on Eighth Avenue, and to the north Marquee Skydeck at Edge Hudson Yards hosts parties of its own.
The happy hours lean toward bars, with some restaurants and a few pubs. Cocktails come up most, then food deals such as tacos, olives and small bites, and several places run their deal all day. Deals hold steady from Tuesday to Friday, dip on Monday, and about a third continue on the weekend.
Getting there: the A, C, E and L stop at 14th Street and 8th Avenue for the south end. The C and E also stop at 23rd Street, the 1 stops at 23rd and 28th Streets, and the 7 reaches the far west side at 34th Street–Hudson Yards. The full list is on Chelsea happy hours.
4. East Village: the bar-heavy all-rounder
The East Village has the third-longest happy hour list on the site and a solid party calendar, which makes it the most balanced choice in Manhattan. About seven in ten places on our list are bars rather than restaurants. Wine and cocktails lead, food deals are less common, and the weekend is stronger than in Williamsburg or Midtown, especially Sunday, which more places here cover than Saturday. Weekday deals peak on Tuesday and stay steady through Friday.
For parties, Deluxx Fluxx on East 11th Street is the busiest room, with hip-hop, R&B, dancehall and Latin nights on Fridays and Saturdays. DROM on Avenue A books house, disco, drum and bass and pop, while Saint Restaurant Bar & Speakeasy on Second Avenue and Blind Barber New York on East 10th Street add the odd party night.
Getting there: 1st Avenue on the L serves the biggest share of bars here, followed by the 6 at Astor Place and the F at 2nd Avenue. The L also stops at 3rd Avenue for the Second Avenue strip. The full list is on East Village happy hours.
5. Midtown: the most happy hours
Midtown has more happy hours on our site than any other neighborhood, and the list is built around office life. Bars and restaurants are close to even, with a few pubs. Cocktails and wine are on most menus, food deals on about a third, oysters on several, and a good number run all day. Monday through Thursday is the peak, Friday is a little lighter, and about a third keep a deal on the weekend.
Parties are fewer, but there is a steady base. Nebula on West 41st Street books Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, Daintree Rooftop on West 38th Street hosts house nights, and Margaritaville Times Square adds the occasional party.
Getting there: our Midtown runs from the blocks around 28th Street up into the 50s, so choose a stop by area. The 6 serves the most bars, at 28th Street and 51st Street. The E and F stop at Lexington Avenue–53rd Street and 5th Avenue–53rd Street, the 7, B, D, F and M at 42nd Street–Bryant Park and 5th Avenue, and the 4, 5, 6, 7 and S at Grand Central. The full list is on Midtown happy hours.
6. Lower East Side: parties on a tight grid
The Lower East Side ranks sixth, with a mid-sized happy hour list and a party calendar about as busy as the East Village next door. Bars and restaurants are close to even, with a couple of pubs. Cocktails come first, food deals are common, and a weekend deal is easier to find here than in Midtown or Chelsea. Tuesday to Thursday is the peak, and Monday is noticeably thinner than elsewhere, so plan around it.
For parties, The Delancey on Delancey Street is the busiest room, with Latin and reggaeton on Fridays and Saturdays. VIRGO on Grand Street books house, Hotel Chantelle on Ludlow Street adds house and EDM, and Pianos: The Mezzanine, The Skinny Bar and 122 Orchard St fill in around Orchard and Ludlow. Liberty Belle, Pier 36 NYC on South Street runs Saturday parties.
Getting there: the F stops at Delancey Street, 2nd Avenue and East Broadway, and Essex Street adds the J, M and Z. The J and Z also stop at Bowery for the western blocks. The full list is on Lower East Side happy hours.
7. Greenwich Village: the easy weeknight
Greenwich Village has one of the five longest happy hour lists on the site but few parties, which puts it seventh. Bars make up a little over half, restaurants about a third, plus a few pubs, spread along Hudson Street, Carmine Street and the blocks off West 4th Street. Wine leads, then cocktails and food deals, with oysters at a few addresses. Thursday is the strongest day, and weekend deals are common: about two in five places keep one.
For parties, Houston Hall on West Houston Street and Le Petit Village on Seventh Avenue South host occasional nights, and the White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street books the odd party too.
Getting there: the 1 covers the most bars, at Houston Street and Christopher Street–Stonewall. West 4th Street–Washington Square brings in the A, B, C, D, E, F and M. The full list is on Greenwich Village happy hours.
How to choose: after work, a big night out or a weekend day
After work, go where the weekday list is longest. Midtown has the most happy hours and many that run all day, which suits an early start near the office, and Williamsburg and the East Village have the next-longest lists. Three areas missed this ranking only because they have almost no parties: Hell's Kitchen and the Upper West Side both have long happy hour lists, and Astoria has a deep one along the N and W.
For a big night out, start with a happy hour and walk to a party in the same neighborhood. Bushwick and Williamsburg share the L, so you can move from one to the other without changing trains, and the L also stops in the East Village and Chelsea on the Manhattan side. The East Village and the Lower East Side share the F at 2nd Avenue. Friday and Saturday carry most of the parties everywhere in this guide, so check the party map for what is on tonight.
For a weekend day, pick places that keep the deal going on Saturday and Sunday. Bushwick has the biggest weekend share of the top neighborhoods, the East Village is stronger on Sunday than Saturday, and the Lower East Side and Greenwich Village both have plenty of weekend deals. In Williamsburg, look for weekend-only spots like OTB. The weekend happy hours page lists them all.
Questions
What is the best neighborhood in NYC for nightlife?
It depends on the night you want. On our data, Bushwick has the most upcoming parties by a wide margin, Midtown has the most happy hours, and Williamsburg sits near the top of both, which makes it the safest all-round pick. In Manhattan, the East Village is the most balanced choice.
Is Brooklyn or Manhattan better for a night out?
Brooklyn wins on parties: Bushwick has the busiest party calendar on our site and Williamsburg is close behind. Manhattan wins on choice: five of the seven neighborhoods in this guide are there, and Midtown, the East Village and Greenwich Village all have long happy hour lists. Many people do both, with a happy hour in Manhattan and then the L to Brooklyn.
Which nights are busiest for parties in NYC?
Friday and Saturday, by far, across every neighborhood in this guide. A few venues book midweek: Sleepwalk in Williamsburg hosts many Wednesday nights, Nebula in Midtown has Tuesdays, SILO Brooklyn runs parties from Tuesday to Thursday, and Somewhere Nowhere NYC in Chelsea keeps going on Sunday. The party map shows what is on tonight.
Which days have the most happy hours?
Tuesday through Thursday. In most of the neighborhoods here those three days carry the most deals, Monday and Friday are a little lighter, and the weekend has the fewest. Midtown stays steady from Monday to Thursday. For weekends, Bushwick, the Lower East Side, Greenwich Village and the East Village have the biggest share of Saturday and Sunday deals.
Can I walk from a happy hour to a party in the same neighborhood?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to plan a night. Post No Bills is next door to Sleepwalk in Williamsburg, Ten Bells on Broome Street is about a minute from VIRGO and Hotel Chantelle, Niagara on Avenue A is a short walk from DROM, and El Coco on Eighth Avenue is a minute from loulou.
How did you rank these neighborhoods?
We added up two counts for each neighborhood: bars with a current happy hour on our site and upcoming parties on our calendar, matched by the party's neighborhood or its venue's. We skipped bars whose latest check found the deal had changed or could only partly confirm it, and left out areas with almost no parties. The counts move all the time, so the neighborhood pages and maps show live numbers.
How we put this together
We ranked neighborhoods on October 16, 2026 by adding two counts from our own database: bars with a listed happy hour in each neighborhood, using each bar's neighborhood as corrected that day and leaving out bars whose latest recheck marked the deal as changed or partial, and upcoming parties on our calendar, matched by the party's listed neighborhood or its venue's. Neighborhoods with almost no upcoming parties were left out of the ranking. Kinds of places, busiest days and subway lines are summarized from the same bar rows. Happy hour details, days, booking links and subway walking times come from each bar's own website; the eight picks were last checked on October 15, 2026. Party listings come from the DICE ticket pages linked on each party page.
