Open Decks returns to the front room at SILO Brooklyn in Bushwick, hosted by DJ and musician Steen with Solarsonic Soundsystem as this week's co-host. This edition is Tuesday, October 20. It is free with advance RSVP and capacity is limited.
A relaxed community night where DJs take turns sharing house and techno on SILO's front room sound system, which the venue describes as a custom 15,000-watt Danley rig. My take: for DJs who want time on a serious system, and for friends who come to listen and hang.
House and techno played by sign-up DJs. Slots are 12 minutes. The first three DJs play first come, first served; after that names are drawn at random from the sign-up list, and you get half an hour's notice before your slot. No billed artists.
Listed from 7 PM to 2 AM, 21+. Sign-up is in person at the event only, starting around 8 PM, and is done with Steen. RSVP on DICE in advance. SILO's FAQ says guests need a government-issued photo ID or passport, re-entry is usually allowed but exits may be final at capacity for sold-out shows, and coat check is available. The venue says all spaces, including the main entrance at 90 Scott Avenue, are wheelchair accessible, restrooms are gender neutral, and ticketed events use strobe lights and haze.
