New Year's Eve in NYC 2026: a planning guide for the big night

New Year's Eve in NYC 2026 lands on a Thursday, and we list 22 published parties that night, 15 in Manhattan and 7 in Brooklyn, all 21 and up. Choose by kind first: club nights at SILO Brooklyn and Elsewhere in Bushwick or Marquee in Chelsea, rooftops such as Darling Rooftop on Central Park South and El Nico in Williamsburg, or big rooms like Capitale on the Bowery and Sony Hall. Most parties start at 9 p.m., so a Thursday happy hour nearby, such as Desmond's Tavern near the Koreatown parties or Lucky in the East Village, makes an easy first stop.

New Year's Eve is the one night when every plan in the city competes for the same few hours. The trick is to decide early what kind of night you want, then pick a neighborhood where you can walk between dinner, a first drink and the party. This guide walks through those choices. For the full live list, with tickets, start times and status for each party, go to every NYE party we list.

Right now our list has 22 published parties on Thursday, December 31, 2026, at 21 venues. Eighteen of them start at 9 p.m. The early outlier is the Rooftop Ball Drop View party at Margaritaville Times Square, which starts at 7 p.m. Capitale and El Nico Rooftop start at 8 p.m., and Elsewhere opens last, at 10:30 p.m.

The picks below are bars whose regular happy hour runs on Thursdays, each a short walk from one of the party clusters. Holiday hours can change, so treat them as a plan to confirm, not a promise.

    Tue–Fri 5pm–7pm · 48 Cypress Avenue · Jefferson Street (L)

A Cypress Avenue bar with a rooftop, four minutes from the Jefferson Street L stop. Happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday in the early evening, and the deal is a discount on everything rather than a short menu. Elsewhere is about a three-minute walk and SILO Brooklyn about four, so it works before either Bushwick club night. The window closes well before doors, so come early and eat nearby.

    Mon–Fri 4pm–7pm · 51 Kent Avenue · Bedford Avenue (L)

A pub on Kent Avenue near the Williamsburg waterfront, seven minutes from Bedford Avenue on the L. Its weekday window covers Thursday the 31st. The deal centers on the bar's own pilsner, plus a beer-or-seltzer-and-shot combo at the bartender's choice. Superior Ingredients, home of both the Roof and the Room parties, is about two minutes away, which makes this the natural meeting point for either ticket.

Start with the kind of night you want

Club nights are for people who care who is playing. In Bushwick, New Year's Eve: Gravagerz at SILO Brooklyn and Elsewhere New Year's Eve with San Pacho sit about two minutes apart. &ME New Year's Eve takes over the Duggal Greenhouse at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Loud Luxury headlines Marquee in Chelsea. For Latin sounds, there is a reggaeton party at The Meadows in Brooklyn and a Latin-tagged night at Hotel Alameda in Chelsea.

Rooftops and views trade the dance floor for a skyline. Darling Rooftop is on Central Park South, the Rooftop Ball Drop View party is at Margaritaville Times Square, and Williamsburg has El Nico Rooftop and the Superior Ingredients Roof.

Big rooms and halls suit a large group that wants one ticket and one address: Capitale on the Bowery, Sony Hall off Times Square, Houston Hall on West Houston Street and the Superior Ingredients Room. Smaller bar and lounge parties fill in the rest: Tavern 29, 5th & Mad, Ainsworth, Blind Barber, White Horse, Common Ground and VIRGO. If you cannot choose one place, the Downtown Crawl Til the Ball Drops starts at The Skinny Bar on the Lower East Side. One gap: no boat parties are on our list for December 31 yet.

Pick a neighborhood you can walk

On New Year's Eve, the best plan keeps you on foot. Koreatown has the tightest Manhattan cluster: Tavern 29, Ainsworth and 5th & Mad are each about four minutes from the next. In Chelsea, Hotel Alameda and Marquee sit about a minute apart on West 27th Street. Downtown, VIRGO, The Skinny Bar and Capitale are all within about eight minutes of each other, and Blind Barber is a short trip north in the East Village.

The West Village and Meatpacking District give you White Horse and Common Ground, about six minutes apart, with Houston Hall a ten-minute walk south. In Brooklyn, SILO Brooklyn and Elsewhere form the Bushwick pair, and The Meadows is about a 14-minute walk from Elsewhere. Williamsburg's two Superior Ingredients parties share one building on Wythe Avenue, with El Nico Rooftop about 11 minutes away.

Midtown is the one area where we would plan with extra care. Margaritaville Times Square and Sony Hall are both close to the Times Square crowds, so read each party page's entry notes before you set out, and leave more time than you think you need.

Tickets: what to check before you buy

Read the ticket type, not just the party name. Superior Ingredients sells the Roof and the Room as separate listings, so a ticket for one does not cover the other. Some parties bundle an open bar and a midnight toast, others sell entry only, and table packages are a different product again. The party page spells out what each listing includes.

Check the status and the lineup next. Every Dec 31 party on our list is currently marked as scheduled, but Elsewhere's lineup is still partly to be announced, and other parties have not named their DJs yet. Finally, read the refund terms on the ticket site before paying, because they differ between sellers and promoters. Current prices are on each party page.

Age limits and ID

Every one of the 22 parties on our December 31 list is listed as 21 and up, so there is no all-ages option on it. Bring a valid government photo ID, and plan for a door check even if you look older. Visitors from abroad should carry a passport. Our guide to what time bars close in NYC covers which IDs New York bars accept and why bouncers are strict about it.

Getting home after midnight

Plan the ride home before you plan the outfit. The MTA says the subway runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, but not every route runs around the clock, and late trains come less often, so check your line before the night. Choosing a party near your own subway line is the simplest fix.

Bars and clubs must stop serving alcohol at 4 a.m. in Manhattan, according to the State Liquor Authority's county hours, so that is the latest any of these nights can pour. Each party page lists its own end time. January 1, 2027 is a Friday, which gives most people a long weekend to recover. Agree on a meeting point before midnight, because phones and crowds both get unreliable right after the countdown.

Questions

What day of the week is New Year's Eve 2026?

Thursday. December 31, 2026 falls on a Thursday, and New Year's Day, January 1, 2027, is a Friday. That means regular Thursday happy hour schedules apply on the eve itself, if the bar keeps its usual hours.

How many New Year's Eve parties are there in NYC in 2026?

We list 22 published parties on December 31, 2026, at 21 venues: 15 in Manhattan and 7 in Brooklyn. The full live list is on our every NYE party page.

Are there New Year's Eve boat parties in NYC this year?

Not on our list yet. None of the 22 published December 31 parties is a boat party. We add new listings as they are announced, so check the NYE party page again closer to the date.

Can people under 21 go to these New Year's Eve parties?

No. All 22 parties on our December 31 list are 21 and up, so bring a valid government photo ID.

Do NYC bars run happy hour on New Year's Eve?

Some do on paper, because December 31, 2026 is a Thursday and many bars list a Thursday happy hour. Holiday hours often change, so call or check the bar's site that week before you count on it.

Does the subway run all night on New Year's Eve?

The subway runs 24 hours a day, every day, according to the MTA. Not every route runs around the clock, and trains are less frequent late at night, so check your line before you go out.

How we put this together

We pulled every published party on our list with a night date of December 31, 2026: 22 parties at 21 venues, with details from the ticket listings linked on each party page, last checked October 22, 2026. Start times, age limits and neighborhoods come from those listings. Bar picks come from each bar's own website, with happy hours checked between October 17 and October 23, 2026; we kept bars with a Thursday window and measured straight-line walking distance to the party venues at about 80 meters per minute. Subway hours come from the MTA and alcohol service hours from the State Liquor Authority, both checked October 23, 2026.
