Village Halloween Parade 2026: bars near the route, before and after

The Village Halloween Parade 2026 steps off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, and heads north up Sixth Avenue to West 15th Street, according to the organizers. Before it, 8th Street Winecellar, L'accolade on Bleecker Street and Left Bank on Perry Street run Saturday happy hours a few minutes from the route. After it, Bobo on West 10th Street has the only late Saturday happy hour near Sixth Avenue on our list.

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which means the Village Halloween Parade gets a weekend crowd on top of its usual one. The 2026 theme is Body & Soul, and the organizers name Joey Arias as Grand Marshal. It moves up Sixth Avenue through Greenwich Village from early evening until late, and the blocks on either side fill up fast.

That makes the drinks plan more important than usual. Happy hours near the route mostly run in the afternoon and early evening on Saturdays, so the smart move is to drink early, eat something, and claim a spot on the avenue before the parade reaches you. We checked every bar on our list within about 700 meters of Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street: 38 have a happy hour, and 13 of those run one on Saturday. The six picks below are the ones with published deals and the clearest fit for parade day, plus one for after.

If you want to keep going once the last float passes, our Halloween parties list has the club nights and costume parties across the city, and the Halloween weekend guide covers all four nights from Thursday to Sunday.

The 2026 parade at a glance

Date and time: Saturday, October 31, 2026, starting at 7 p.m. The organizers' watch page says it ends around 11 p.m., so plan on about four hours of parade moving north past you. Spectrum News NY1 carries it live from 8 p.m. if you would rather watch from a bar stool.

Route: the parade runs north on Sixth Avenue to West 15th Street. The organizers describe the start two ways: their watch page says the viewing stretch runs from King Street to West 15th Street, while the march page and press page put the line-up at the south end, around Canal Street and Sixth Avenue. Either way, the part you can stand along is Sixth Avenue from about King Street up to 15th Street.

The opening act is a new puppet piece called Firehorse, and the theme, Body & Soul, is the prompt for costumes if you want to match it.

How to march or watch

Anyone in costume can march. Only costumed people are let into the line-up, which opens at 6:30 p.m. and stays open until 9 p.m. on October 31. The organizers' press page puts it on Sixth Avenue between Spring Street and Broome Street and asks marchers to come in from the east or south. If you approach from the west, enter from Canal Street. No costume, no entry, so plan the outfit before the drinks.

To watch, stand on either side of Sixth Avenue anywhere between King Street and West 15th Street. The organizers warn that the blocks from Bleecker Street to 14th Street are the most crowded, so arrive early if you want a front spot there, or walk south of Bleecker for more room. The parade takes time to travel north, so the farther up the avenue you stand, the later it reaches you.

A simple plan: happy hour in the late afternoon, food by early evening, then on the avenue by the time the parade starts. Bars near Sixth Avenue fill up after the first floats pass, and you will lose your viewing spot if you leave it.

Timing your drinks around the parade

Saturday is a weaker happy hour day than a weeknight. Of the 38 bars on our list within about 700 meters of Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street, only 13 run a Saturday window, and all but one end by the early evening. That lines up well with the parade: drink before 7 p.m., then move.

For the early slot, start at L'accolade on Bleecker Street, whose Saturday deal begins in the afternoon, or at The Grey Dog on University Place. Left Bank and 8th Street Winecellar keep going into the evening, and Jack & Charlie's No. 118 runs until the early evening on Greenwich Avenue, near the north end. After the parade, Bobo is the one pick with a late Saturday window, in its den, and it overlaps the parade's last hour. Everything else will be full price by then.

Happy hour times on a holiday night are the bar's call, not ours. Check each pick card on the day, and see what time bars close in NYC if you plan to stay out late.

Getting there and home

The organizers advise against driving. For marchers, they name the Spring Street station on the Eighth Avenue line as the closest stop to the line-up. For spectators, the picks above sit near West 4th Street-Washington Square (A, B, C, D, E, F, M), Christopher Street-Stonewall (1) and Union Square, according to their listings.

Expect crowds on every platform near the route after the parade ends. Walking a few blocks east or west of Sixth Avenue before you look for a train, or toward Union Square, usually beats waiting at the nearest entrance.

What we could not confirm

We could not confirm street closures, crossing points or any subway service changes for parade night from an official source, so we have left them out. Check the organizers' site and the MTA before you go. The organizers' pages also describe the start of the route slightly differently, King Street on one page and Canal Street on others, so treat the southern end as approximate. Bar happy hours come from each bar's own published schedule and may change on Halloween.

Questions

What time does the Village Halloween Parade 2026 start?

It starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, according to the organizers, and ends around 11 p.m. Spectrum News NY1 broadcasts it live from 8 p.m.

Where does the parade go?

North on Sixth Avenue to West 15th Street. The organizers say you can watch from either side of the avenue between King Street and West 15th Street, and that Bleecker to 14th Street is the most crowded stretch.

Can I march in the Village Halloween Parade?

Yes, if you are in costume. The line-up runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sixth Avenue near Canal Street, between Spring and Broome Streets per the press page. Only people in costume are let in.

Which bars near the route have a happy hour on Saturday?

On our list, 13 bars within about 700 meters of Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street run one on Saturday, including L'accolade, Left Bank, 8th Street Winecellar, The Grey Dog on University Place and Jack & Charlie's No. 118. Most end by the early evening.

Is there a happy hour after the parade?

Bobo on West 10th Street is the only bar near the route on our list with a late Saturday happy hour. It runs in the den and overlaps the last part of the parade.

What is the 2026 parade theme?

Body & Soul. The organizers also name Joey Arias as the 2026 Grand Marshal and open the parade with a new puppet piece, Firehorse.

How we put this together

Parade date, start time, route, line-up rules, viewing advice and broadcast details come from the organizers' site, halloween-nyc.com (home, march, watch, press and theme pages), checked October 23, 2026. Bars come from our database of New York happy hours, which records each bar's schedule and offers from its own website. We measured straight-line distance from each bar to Sixth Avenue at about 80 meters a minute and counted bars within 700 meters of Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street. The six picks were last checked between September 2 and October 23, 2026; Bobo's listing is the oldest, from September 2.
