A sports bar happy hour in NYC is mostly about discounted drafts and well drinks before or during a game, and our list has a short roster of bars tagged as sports bars with a deal attached. The Manhattan ones are spread from Greenwich Village and Hell's Kitchen up to the Upper East Side, and the Brooklyn ones are in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick and Clinton Hill.

Most of these deals run on weekdays from late afternoon into the evening, which lines up with weeknight games. A couple break the pattern: The Dawson 39 near Bryant Park starts at lunchtime and includes Saturday, and Meller's on the Upper East Side runs a deal that begins late at night. Some bars pause specials on major game nights, so confirm before you build an evening around one.

Its happy hour has one of the longest windows here, from lunchtime to early evening Monday through Friday, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. The B, D, F, M and 7 at 42nd Street-Bryant Park are two minutes away.

Where they cluster

With a short list, there is no single sports bar district on our list. The Upper East Side has O'Flanagan's and Meller's, and Williamsburg has Guarapo and The Woods. Others are spread across the city, from Rocco's Sports & Rec near the Bleecker Street station to The Emerson on Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill, with Tavern29 by the 28th Street stop on the 6 adding a pub with a long weekday window.

Before you go

On big game nights, specials may be paused, so check with the bar before you count on the deal. Menu prices leave out the 8.875 percent city sales tax, and a tip of 18 to 20 percent is standard. Look at each bar's last-checked date before you plan around a happy hour.
