Carroll Gardens sits just south of Cobble Hill in brownstone Brooklyn, with the Gowanus Canal to the east and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway separating the Columbia Street waterfront to the west. Court Street and Smith Street carry most of its restaurants and bars, and our list follows them: Cubana Cafe and Planted Cafe on Smith Street, Marco Polo Ristorante and Minibar on Court Street, and Jalopy Tavern out on Columbia Street. Every one of them names Carroll Street on the F and G as its nearest station.
Happy hour in Carroll Gardens is mostly a weeknight affair with a restaurant streak. Minibar covers bottled beer, well drinks, drafts, classic cocktails and house wine, Cubana Cafe adds small plates to its cocktails, and Planted Cafe keeps it to beer and wine. Marco Polo Ristorante is the one place on the list that keeps its deal going through Saturday and Sunday. Practical tip: Marco Polo is closed on Mondays, so start the week at Minibar or Cubana Cafe instead.
