Early happy hours NYC: bars that pour from midday to mid-afternoon
About a third of the bars on our list, 243 of 742, start a weekday happy hour by 3pm, and 63 of them get going by noon. Our early happy hours NYC picks: The Stag's Head in Midtown starts in the late morning, Half Moon in the Financial District and District Local in Chelsea start at midday, Gordo's Cantina in Bushwick and Spanglish NYC in Astoria do the same on the other side of the river, and Kingsbridge Social Club covers the Bronx.
Most New York happy hours open as the office empties. This guide is about the other third: 243 of the 742 bars on our list start a weekday happy hour by 3pm, and 63 of them begin by noon. Mid-afternoon is the most common early start by far, so a late-morning or midday window is the real find.
An early window changes what happy hour is for. It can be a long lunch with a beer, an afternoon laptop session that ends with a drink, or a post-shift round for people whose working day ends when everyone else's is half done. Our eight picks cover Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, and the live table at the bottom of the page lists every bar with an early weekday start.
Read the day pattern on each card before you go. Most early windows run Monday to Friday, a few skip Monday or Friday, and a handful, like Therapy Wine Bar's, run every day of the week.

Who an early happy hour is for
Remote workers get the most out of it. A window that opens at midday, like those at Half Moon, District Local and Gordo's Cantina, means you can close the laptop whenever the work is done instead of racing an early-evening cutoff. Be a good guest: order as you would at night, and leave the big tables to groups once the room fills.
Visitors between sights can use an early start as a rest stop. Half Moon is a minute from Rector Street in the Financial District, and The Stag's Head is a few minutes from Lexington Avenue/53rd Street in Midtown. Shift workers, from nurses and doormen to bartenders and line cooks, often finish when the rest of the city is still at work. An early window turns a post-shift drink into a deal. Therapy Wine Bar is the rare pick that runs every day, which helps if your days off fall midweek or your shifts cover the weekend.
How to plan an early happy hour
Start with the day pattern, not the clock. Early windows skew to weekdays, and several on our list skip Monday or run only part of the week, so check the card for the day you want. Our <a href="/happy-hours/now">happy hour now</a> page shows what is running at the moment you open it.
Read the fine print on food. Some bars start the drinks deal before the food deal: The Stag's Head lists its happy hour bites later in the day than its beer and well drinks. Others limit the deal to drinking in, as Therapy Wine Bar does. If eating matters, look for the food tag on the card.
Use the subway to chain stops. The L links Gordo's Cantina at DeKalb Avenue with District Local at 14th Street, and the 1 runs from 14th Street up to Kingsbridge Social Club at 238th Street. Several of these places also take reservations through their booking link, which is worth using for a group on a Friday.
Best areas for an early start
Manhattan holds 171 of the 243 early happy hours on our list. Times Square and the Financial District lead with 14 each, followed by Midtown with 13, the Upper West Side and Murray Hill with 12 each, and Tribeca and the Upper East Side with 11. For a start before noon, Midtown and Murray Hill have the most, five each, which makes the East Side office belt the strongest bet for a lunchtime round.
Outside Manhattan, Astoria leads with 10 early happy hours, four of them starting by noon, followed by Jackson Heights and Park Slope with eight each. Brooklyn has 33 early spots in total, Queens 30 and the Bronx three. Staten Island is small but early: six of its eight listings start by mid-afternoon on weekdays, and The Rock House runs from midday every day.

For this guide, a weekday happy hour window that starts by 3pm. On our list that is 243 of 742 bars, about a third. Late-night windows that start after midnight are not included.
Are there happy hours in NYC that start at noon or earlier?
Yes, 63 bars on our list start a weekday window by noon. The Stag's Head in Midtown starts in the late morning, and Half Moon, District Local, Gordo's Cantina, Therapy Wine Bar and Spanglish NYC start at midday.
Do early happy hours run on weekends?
Mostly not. Early windows are a weekday habit. Among our picks, only Therapy Wine Bar in Bed-Stuy runs its happy hour every day, weekends included.
Which neighborhoods have the most early happy hours?
Times Square and the Financial District, with 14 each, then Midtown with 13. Outside Manhattan, Astoria leads with 10.
Is there an early happy hour in the Bronx or on Staten Island?
Yes. Kingsbridge Social Club is a minute from 238th Street on the 1. On Staten Island, six of the eight places on our list start by mid-afternoon on weekdays, and The Rock House runs from midday every day.
